Ring of Fire

...is what you might have if you were at the party at my place yesterday...

Just in the midst of cleaning up from Mon's Chilli Con Carnivale. Quite a success.... We had fun, food, friends. We had games and gadgets. But most of all we had CHILLI!!!!

One of the games we had was guess how many Chilis...
Winner was Calvin
he won a box of Mon's next chocolates...

The loser was Josh Wong, his punishment - eating a spicy chilli.
There were some good costumes. Mon in her fabulous Carnival get-up, and Andrew in his 'mexican gardener outfit'.

The south africans got very colorful as a trio of Brazilian party-goers.

Bandito Zane-o

Next event was 'pin the drugs on the mexican'. was pretty good, Bessie was our big winner of that one. No prize unfortunately.

Pinata was the the last game. It took a very super long time to break the thing. I broke off the string a bunch, so it finally it became pinata baseball.

Rich broke this bad boy open...

The night then escalated into a visual/musical spectacular..

featuring mainly Rich and Ross...

Manila Vice

Hello everyone, We have returned from our easter trip to Manilla. What an interesting trip this was!

Between getting our tickets and arriving in Manilla, we were warned it was a dangerous place. Shortly after arriving we kept hearing 'be careful'. So it put us a little on edge. However, there wasn't too much to worry about. We were also warned that nothing would be open since it was Holy Week.
We checked into our ghetto ass hotel and laughed a bit at all the half asked service and amenities....
DAY 1
We left our hotel for a walk around the city.. Alot of street kids (naked and begging) led the way to a very big and beautiful Rizal Park
... which had some kite flying and what looked to be very tasty food. Note- the bumbag I sported until it broke. Some of the food stalls around the park were selling awesome looking fried chicken (that quickly struck a yearning within us).

Later that evening we ate a 'Hong Kong' restaurant. It was super western and overpriced.
After dinner we hit up the nightlife area of Malate and quickly found our favorite bar of the trip
After a day our wandering around and drinking red horse beer, it was good to sit down and drink more red horse beer.
Crashed pretty early that night.

DAY 2

Early rise and ready to head to Ocean Park Manila.
First off, The Oceanarium
Some really cool looking fish. The tanks were pretty good for the most part, the whole place looked pretty well maintained.
After a few small fish tank sections there was a tunnel that held sharks and sting rays and various other gnarly fish.
The oceanariam took a decent amount of time to get to...

THEN, a highlight for me was the fish spa that followed.
Very funny sensation, ended up being very relaxing. These 'Doctor Fish' swarmed to my manky feet and started eating all of the dead skin, was ticklish but felt really nice. I recommend anyone to try this if you get a chance!

Next was the Sea Lion Show
It was a well done show, and the Sea Lions didn't seem to be too depressed.

We did one more thing called 'Jellies' or something, just a bunch of jelly fish, pretty lame actually...

For Dinner we hit up our fav bar Erra's Grill for some chicken and fish, it was pretty superb.
Meet some cool street kids, Big Steven and Little Steven, they were really friendly and just all around cool dudes.
We had a couple more brews, then headed across the street to watch a live band called "The Boss" I think. They were really fun, and the all the bar staff was really friendly! When the band finished their first set we did a little bar hopping. Ended up at some really crap english bar, where we were the ONLY patrons.

DAY 3

Starving for breakfast, I headed across the street to The Yellow Cab Pizza Co. for some breakfast bagels (which rocked my world). On the way there some guy was trying to sell me a taser, kept showing me and following me, a bit of a freaky thing to wake up to.

Then we went to check out the Manila Zoo.
This Zoo is Asia's oldest Zoo... and it totally shows. The cages were so small and depressing, none of them had water and the animals looked suicidal... It was pretty sad to be here actually.
They had a lot of tigers (although, I don't have any pictures, cause they were all sleeping).
The zoo was also home to quite a few monkeys, but the cages were far too small to get any pictures.

There was a Zebra enclosure where one 'zebra' had it's strips almost all gone, looked as though they had just painted them on a horse... the real Zebra was in a very small house...
Pretty sad to see all those animals like that, We were there for a couple of hours at least and didn't see any Zoo staff at all.

So, after the Zoo we walked back to our hotel and discovered a big mall was open, so we popped in to do a bit of shopping and a bit of lunch.
On the taxi ride into town from the airport, we had seen a Kenny Roger's restaurant and decided we needed to eat there! We found one in the mall and got very excited. Geez, Kenny, your food sucks, it was gross. Very disappointing!

On our way home we spotted a bar called 'The Hobbit House'

We went in to check it out, all of the servers were little people and they had a huge amount of different beers and ciders, super cool place and the decor was all lord of the rings paintings

there was going to be a band playing later that evening, so we went back to the hotel to get a bit of rest before going back to check it out. I sure hope the band wasn't little people, because we ended up crashing and missing it...):

DAY 4

Last Day in Manilla, we checked out of the hotel and went to the mall for some brekkie.
Headed over to Intramuros (a walled city built by the spanish). It is the oldest part of the city of Manilla. We popped into a cathedral there for the opening of Easter Sunday Mass.
made for some cool pics

On the way into Intramuros, I spotted some cool graffiti...
We were getting very hot, so decided to head back to Ocean Park for some swimming.
After eating at Gerry's Grill (where we finally had some friggen FRIED CHICKEN) we got a ride back to the airport. and that's all he wrote!

We're soooo Camp!

Went camping last weekend during Chinese New Year! Was pretty grand.

Went with some folks from work and Monica and Zane...

The hike over to the beach (Long Ke Wan) was super beautiful!

Found a little crab dude and he hung out with us while Zane (and a little bit me) made the fire.
Here is Zane being a man carrying firewood.

Super worth checking out if you are in Hong Kong and keen to go camping and dont mind a hike and a long cab ride.... It really is outta the way but also really beautiful and not too popular so quite quiet and serene.

Art Jam

What have I done this week you ask?

well.... Monday was a two year mark for Monica and I so we went to eat at a fancy restaurant on Ashley Road. La Taverna was the name of the place and it was delish! On wednesday we went to watch a fire dragon dance parade thing. It was mostly a waste of time and super boring. Monica started to feel really faint because of the heat and crowds and standing for so freaking long waiting for the dumbass dragon to come.

Yesterday however was quite good. We went to a friend's place in Tung Chung area (which was beautiful) and had a bit of an Art Jam. It's always nice to art jam and see what everyone comes up with.

Zane's piece

After the jam session we headed over to The Wanch to watch Corey Tam and David Bowie Knives play a show.. despite a couple of unfriendly faces it was a win night!
Zane is now playing bass for Corey Tam.

I always find it funny how the majority of local bands here in Hong Kong are highly unoriginal and use waaay toooooo many pedals....

... Having said that, I still love to support Hong Kong's talent, as good or bad as they might be. There was this big douche at the Wanch who said in a very loud voice after a band finished a song "this is bullshit, i'm leaving" -what a dick. I know what it's like to get up in front of people and perform music that you have made and are proud of, it's not easy. So anyways I really like to try and support bands that play what they love in the city I am living in.

Red Rain

Hey there!

Monica, my girlfriend, came on wednesday, it's been somewhat busy since then, running around doing whatever. Yesterday was super typhoon mega crazy storm day. Had practice, then got stuck in mong kok mall for a while until deciding to head for the MTR station. We got soaked, then we headed to Liz and Gary's place for some brews, some food and some conversation (as well as to dry off). That ended up being nice.

Now we are heading out to a friend's going away thing. So this will be a short post. We will be playing a show on Tuesday at The Wanch. Here is the details-

We are also gonna try to play open mic at Rockschool on monday night as well...

On my way to practice last week, I picked up a bunch more toys...
got these mexican wrestler dudes (by far my favorite)

And I got these crazy ones, but haven't opened the box yet.

anyways, I'm off!

Extreme Heat and Tired Feet

Ended up going to Park Island yesterday. Was a loungin' pool party, a long day but good fun. Park Island sucks tho, nothing really there except a huge residential complex. There is a giant replica of Noah's Ark, but that's it really. Other than that the pool was nice. Alot of rules though, we weren't allowed to drink (even water) in or around the pool, no food and no photo taking! it was a bit of a nazi pool. Anyways we ended up staying there until the 11:30 ferry back into Central then I cabbed it over to the wanch to see my friend's band Live Fast Die play an acoustic set. They were really good!
I only stayed for their set and left right after cause I was zonked.

It has been hotter then a demon summer here.... I went over to Ma On Shan and worked on some stuff with Zane. On the way there I stumbled upon a little shop that had the CHEAPEST pokemon cards I have ever seen! I bought a bunch!!! Then I came home and was uber tired so had a lil nap. now I'm drinking wine in anticipation of the extreme day tomorrow.

I am working in this center and it has 9 back to back classes with absolutely no breaks, not even for five mins.... i'm gonna be spent!

Anyways missing my girl friend super mucho! She is currently out of the country and I am awaiting her arrival!
Just a picture of us being awesome together!
