Famished Phantoms

Every once in a while we get to experience a great landmark in local music here in our city. Saturday night we had Hungry Ghosts. Releasing their EP2 at Backstage in Central was a big success. The place was packed out (and with good reason). With opening acts like Corey Tam and The One Horse Town, Modern Children and More Reverb it was a quality night of sound. Hungry Ghosts were nothing short of mind-blowing (I was with two Ghost-virgins to prove it).

EP2. If you missed the show this is a must own.

As always Corey Tam was spot on. I kept realizing what a superb song writer he is. A little jealous. Hate you and love you Corey.

Because I'm pretty slack ass when it comes to fully paying attention to anything, I left mid-show to get some 711 beers with Shawn and he showed me some songs from the upcoming David Bowie Knives CD. I must say I am sooo EFFing excited for that bomb to drop!

Hungry Ghosts EP2 is the culmination of years of hard work. Listening to it non-stop today I can see why.

Zine Scene

It's been too long. Chinese New Year is over and I have spent almost all of it either with a drink in hand or playing the new Zelda (which is freaking rad by the way).

Other than that I don't have a hell of a lot to report.

Hungry Ghosts EP launch is coming up this Saturday (4th of February). Please go and support them. It's gonna be a fantastic show!

(click on the picture to see the details of the show)

On the 10th I am taking part in a 'Zine Swap' with a bunch of friends and fellow artists. This should be a fun night too... swing by and pick up a bunch of original zines.

...and release

A bunch of CD release parties coming up here in Hong Kong... 3 of my favorite local bands are ready to show off their talent and hard work. I recommend going to all three, but thats just me...

JAN 21st

Featuring the voices of what sounds like nothing short of angels. These are songs of the tormented muse - driven by a soft yet piercing beat (Gabe FTW). I own this album and you should too!

JAN 28th

Hong Kong's oldest and most highly acclaimed Hardcore band. Fronted by a very passionate dude (Riz). I have been thoroughly impressed with the quality and energy of their performances recently. I grew up listening to this shit. King Ly Chee is not only a top notch local hardcore band, it is also a major landmark in asian music.

FEB 4th

What can I say about these guys (and girl). They are by far one of my favorite local bands. Not only are they my good buddies, but also just such a kick you in your ass good time. One of the best things about Hungry Ghosts is that no matter which genre of music you prefer, you will always enjoy listening to them. Their crowds are never disappointed, so make sure you make it for this one!

BALLS OUT

Just went to pick up the new Steel Panther CD. That's right folks, a CD! Haven't purchased one of those in an age! If you are unaware, Steel Panther (formally known as Metal Skool) is the BEST mock 80's hair band that is out there today. They're lyrics are unmatched and ranked (by me) as the dirtiest lyrics I have ever read/heard.

I remember when I saw them in Vancouver... It was after a long and tiring day at work mid-week. I had gotten home slipped on my PJs and made me some macaroni... There was no was on earth I was leaving my couch. But then, I got a call saying there was a scalper selling tickets to see Steel Panther. Boom, the power of that band got me dressed and downtown in less than 30 mins (I know there is no referance as to how long that would usually take, but use your imagination and guess more than 30 mins).

Anyways, the follow up to their Feel The Steel album is called Balls Out and I'm currently importing it to my itunes... should be on the top of my playlist in no time.

I leave you know with Satchel's review of his own album...

Also, I recommend watching all of their previous Music Videos if you haven't already. Pure genius!
