HKXO2

HKXO2

another great night with some bands I've never heard before...

EMO alert... no, jokes, they were really cool. 22 Cats dude on the right!

Very stoked I got to hear these guys... Gypsy Bitch Rock! (I just made that up, good eh?)
Naughty Aliens= sweet band/awful name

Lovely as always... I think I am in love with this band (individually I don't care for any of them) kidding!

these guys..... they were.... loud?

The man in charge!

 The late-comers.

I was a little disappointed with the turn out... not so many peeps.... C'MON HONG KONG!
anyways it was still a blast, even though I wasn't totally in the mood for live music, I still enjoyed myself.... As you can probably tell if you've made it this far down the post I am not super in the mode for blogging either. LAZY!

Got Caked

More like Got Drunk. Went to Lets Get Caked at the wanch on wednesday and was presented with an extremely fun line-up of bands. I had not been to the Wanch in quite some time and am now wondering why... I freaking love that place! Proceeds of the show went to The Arkh Project. Check them out HERE to see what they are all about.

The line-up

Sun Eskimos (well Janice and Paul anyway)

-Sounding beautiful as always, Janice pumped out some major tunes. Sun Eskimos are a majorly talented under-aged group of misfits. Fronted by the ever so lovely Janice. Amazing voice, amazing music.

Tiger Bombers

A rock-the-frown-off-your-face 3 piece. 3 mega cool people taking turns showing off their pipes. Super fun to listen to and even more fun to watch.

9 Maps

I cannot stress enough how fantastic this band is. every time they play I cannot help but give them my full attention. HAUNTINGLY BEAUTIFUL!

and last but not lame..

Dude Law

I had not heard these dudes live prior to this. If you are like me and like pop punk that is actually good then you will like dude law. The set was short but the songs were driving and dirty.

I recorded a couple of videos from their set which I will post soon (I 'sort of' promise).

We had joy, we had fun, we had far too many alcoholic beverages.

until next time. stay filthy.

...and release

A bunch of CD release parties coming up here in Hong Kong... 3 of my favorite local bands are ready to show off their talent and hard work. I recommend going to all three, but thats just me...

JAN 21st

Featuring the voices of what sounds like nothing short of angels. These are songs of the tormented muse - driven by a soft yet piercing beat (Gabe FTW). I own this album and you should too!

JAN 28th

Hong Kong's oldest and most highly acclaimed Hardcore band. Fronted by a very passionate dude (Riz). I have been thoroughly impressed with the quality and energy of their performances recently. I grew up listening to this shit. King Ly Chee is not only a top notch local hardcore band, it is also a major landmark in asian music.

FEB 4th

What can I say about these guys (and girl). They are by far one of my favorite local bands. Not only are they my good buddies, but also just such a kick you in your ass good time. One of the best things about Hungry Ghosts is that no matter which genre of music you prefer, you will always enjoy listening to them. Their crowds are never disappointed, so make sure you make it for this one!

Sounds By The Sea

Such an incredible weekend full of fun and free music! Saw lots of good friends and drank lots of good beers!

Second time seeing my amigo's band Noughts and Exes play.. Excellent live band. Full of energy and a solid sound.

Check out their music video here -

Corey Tam and the One Horse Town was as stunning as usual! It seems they have permanently added a keyboard player... sensuality added!

David Bowie Knives brought a bit of sexual tension to an otherwise mellow day...
Had a bit of a tear in my laugh as Shaun did not refrain from making dirty jokes/remarks and singing out his sleaze...

Sunday brought forth 9 MAPS (who are having their Debut Album Launch this weekend in a secret location).
Really beautiful as usual... Can't wait to get my hands on a CD.

Check them out playing a song on the star ferry here -

Jade and the Stagger Swallows ended the 2 day event with a mellow and gorgeous set. I'm starting to really love this band.

dairy molars

Took a stroll down to central for this last night!
Was pretty great, minus the venue. Very small and not enough seats, aircon was busted and alot of people turned up. Skylark lounge is primarily a jazz/blues lounge and it is not meant for CD release parties(in my opinion).

Milkteeth are a local band that play anxious folkish, jazzy rock. I dunno how to describe it, disregard my attempt. But they are very good. Joey Basa (singer/guitarist) has a very cool and unique voice and writes some neat-o lyrics.

Here is the CD they just released-

'Chance'
... recorded by my good friend Kento, It sounds very nice. Great levels and a nice layout.

9 Maps opened up for this show, glad to see that they are getting more and more involved with the music scene. I went with some people that had never heard 9 maps before and all I kept hearing was "great harmonies, etc."

All in all a great time that was had. I took some pictures but they all turned out like dung.

9 Maps

A few days ago I had the privilege of hearing 9 maps play at the Wanch. Such an awesome band. Reminded me of a band that should be on Saddle Creek records. They played beautiful music. you should check them out here - 9 maps. Definitely one of HK's best mellower bands and the one girl shreds on the keyboard.

here you can see a video of one of my fav songs.
